U.S. based PC and Mac users can register to test OnLive Games on Demand service. Recollect the buzz created by cloud based on-demand gaming service onlive at Game Developers Conference 2009 in March? Well, after being dormant for a while, OnLive folks have announced public beta of OnLive game service testing for U.S. residents. The onlive beta testing program requires the user to be above 18 years of age and have window xp based PC or Intel based Mac with broadband connections
Steve Pearlman, OnLive CEO, wrote in a blgspot on the official OnLive Blog that the user would be asked some general information about isp , computer configuration and location while signing up. The same information would be used to organize the Beta testers into specific test groups for testing under various conditions. OnLive will then consider the information if it is potential for specific test group and then send invitation email to the eligible Beta testers. The Beta Testers then will have to run a detailed Performance Test.
Once the OnLive Beta testers pass the Performance Test, a browser plugin would be pushed to them to start playing games. While the testers use the service and play games, OnLive would be constantly logging the technical data. Beta Testers would be asked to give feedback on the service experience and gaming on the micro-console. Being Beta, this Games on Demand service is bound to be buggy and that's how OnLive folks will know the bugs and fix them.
If OnLive's Games on Demand isn't going to replace consoles, then it surely would be an alternative to Console gaming
