Wipro, IT service organization has got engaged into a deal with Oracle, a global software company to proffer high quality and efficient products through SaaS (software-as-a-service) model.
Looking at the high potency in the cloud computing section, the service known as w-SaaS will enable software companies to render their existing applications as SaaS in a multi-tenant framework. The whole service will run on Oracle’s grid computing technologies, comprising Oracle databases, virtualization and middle ware software.
In accordance to Wipro, running applications through SaaS model would be able to save up to 50% of effort used in present SaaS applications, ensuing in saving of up to 10-20% savings in the entire cost of ownership. The senior VP and global head of business technology services at Wipro said, “Our relationship with Oracle enables us to provide independent software vendor’s (ISV) and joint customers, a powerful platform that allows them to improve their revenues in a cost effective manner.”
The decision of the deal between the two companies has been taken when cloud computing is gaining up all the profits of different outsourcing companies by gaining similar advantages like reduced IT costs, applications and hardware management and less internal development of the software.
As per an estimate done by analyst company Gartner, the market for SaaS has been expected to attain $8 billion in year 2009, approx. 22% rise from the year 2008. Wipro anticipate more opportunities for this offering, especially in the growing market of Latin America, Western Europe and Asia Pacific. The focused verticals are mainly health care, manufacturing, retail, transportation and energy and utility sectors.
